Bramble Cottage is in the small quiet village of Bolney, in the heart of the Mid Sussex countryside. In the 1000 year long history of the village, the earliest inhabitants, (from the Saxon period circa AD 972), can be traced to a site now occupied by our next door neighbours pond!
Over the centuries the village was involved in iron-smelting in view of its proximity to some large forest areas of Sussex. “Hammerponds” can still be seen on some on the local walks. The 12th Century Norman/Saxon church is also a must for visitors (the churchyard features the oldest known headstone in Sussex!).
During your stay at Bramble Cottage, why not explore the charming village and surrounding countryside for yourself – there are a selection of local walks ranging from half an hour to around two hours, featured on the Bolney Community website. Remember Bolney is also only a few miles north of the South Downs which is shortly to become Britain’s newest National Park. Additionally, just to the north of the village runs the High Weald AONB (area of outstanding natural beauty).
There are various local community events held on the village green at weekends (right opposite Bramble Cottage), details of “whats on” can be provided on your arrival. There are often events at The Eight Bells, our village pub, such as “Posh Bob’s Quiz night” on the first Sunday of each month. It is a good idea to book in advance if you would like to have lunch or an evening meal at The Eight Bells, as they are very popular.
